Distinct tai chi styles were developed within specific families as a means of protection. These were named after their founders: Wu Style, Chen Style, Yang Style, Hao Style, etc.

The photo above shows Bruce Frantzis demonstrating a Chen-style form. This form tends to have more expansive, explosive movements than the more common Yang or Wu styles.
